South · Fly into Charleston
Rainbow Row pastel houses, ACE Basin dolphin spotting, Savannah squares at golden hour.
The route
Charleston is one of America's most beautiful cities — arguably the most walkable, with pastel antebellum houses, oak-lined streets, and a food scene that overperforms its size (FIG, Husk, The Ordinary for oysters). Two nights to walk the Battery, take a carriage tour, visit the Old Slave Mart Museum for the history, and eat at least twice at Leon's. South through the Sea Islands to Beaufort — quieter and less touristed, with the ACE Basin saltwater estuary for kayaking and dolphin-watching. Cross into Georgia for Savannah: the most hauntingly beautiful city in the South, built on a grid of 22 green squares, with Forsyth Park as the centerpiece. Leopold's for ice cream, The Grey for dinner, and a ghost tour at night.
👨👩👧👦 Kids angle
Charleston's carriage tours are a classic family activity. Magnolia Plantation has peacocks roaming freely — children adore them. ACE Basin boat tours for dolphin and bird sightings. Savannah's squares are natural playgrounds. Pirates of the High Seas Festival in October is a family favorite.
